Hanger 9 Sundowner 50

ARF Kit Made by Hangar 9

Check out my newest consolation plane! I had a miserable day crashing my RcExtra300S40 , but all of the guts were in tact. So I took my son to the hobby store to "look around". Clearly I was intending on walking out with another large box, and so I did. The funny part about this plane is that I wouldn't have ever considered it, looking at the box. It just didn't call out to me, and looked pretty 'blah'. But the clerk at my favorite shop talked me into getting it down, and set the fuse up for me... I was pretty impressed. This puppy just looks FAST.

And that it is. It is known to be a very fast "pylon racer" type plane... very different than most of the aerobatics I have flown to date. It is known for pushing more than 130mph straight-line, and more in a power dive... so this should be interesting. As of this writing, I have not yet maidened the plane.

I was looking for something that was well suited to handle my Saito .82 from the Extra, and this plane listed that as a perfect fit. Though in hindsight, I think the speedy planes might benefit more from a 2-stroke motor... but this should still do nicely! So a very different plane for me, and a very mean, fast looking bird.

I didn't take any build pics, as it's just an ARF... and its pretty boring shots.

Notice how thin the wings are... its made for speed. I understand that landing these babies takes some learning due to their high speed. They are purposely nose-heavy for high-speed stability... but that also means hot landings. Should be fun. The guy at the store said I should practice landing JETS in the simulator to get used to it. LOL.
