RC Airplanes

I have become somewhat of an addict of RC Planes! The silly part is that I have only successfully flown a couple of times... rather choosing to immediately destroy most of my models upon their maiden voyage. I have only had ONE completely successful maiden flight, and the second flight resulted in total destruction. I am really embarassed at my demonstrated lack of proficiency, but I shall continue to try and try again until I get there.

In fact, I just got my Academy of Model Aeronautics certificate and membership ID card, so I can now fly at the real fields! But so as not to look like a total fool at the field with the Pros, I better whip my ass into shape before I go!

News Flash

I'm getting really good at Rebuilding Crashed Planes... though I'd rather not crash at all...

Flight Log

I'll list here info about specific flights and events! I'm starting this about 7 flights in, and don't have many pics from the early flights... but I'll do my best to recap my events here. I'm beginning this as of my recent rebirth into the hobby, so it will start with my first plane, the Parkzone Spitfire (recently resurrected!). It will list them bottom-to-top for ease of watching updates.

The Death Toll

I have so far mowed through five airplane chassis (one not pictured). Check out my RcDeathToll.

Behold my wall of shame:

I hope that I can quit adding broke fuselages to this wall. Though one of them (far right) I am going to rebuild, as the fuse has little damage. So my Ultimate Bipe will live again!

Why Continue?

imageIt's an interesting psychological study to understand why I keep at this despite such an apparent lack of success. It boils down to my undeterred pursuit of proficiency. I cannot let this thing defeat me, and I know I am not *that* bad of a pilot! I can really fly these things better than this... heck, two of my crashes were partially due to me being a worse builder than I am a pilot. They just didn't fly right, and I'm not good enough to fly through that. But my most recent plane as of this writing, the Mini Funtana X, was destroyed because I simply forgot to put my Antenna up! (I won't let that happen again!) So it is in the vain pursuit of not letting myself be defeated that I continue on.

Plus it's fun! My one awesome flight to date with the Funtana was great and relaxing fun! I'd really like to continue doing it! In fact, I'd like to get good enough that I can build some really cool planes - like some scale replica warbirds and such. But I have to put in plenty of stick time in these littler ones before I can try the cool stuff. Not to mention that I have to have a bit more $$ to burn! These things aren't cheap!

My ultimate goal (...dream... if you will :P ) is to build and fly a B-17 replica like this one:

18.5 Foot Wingspan. You could fly your dog in this thing. Hell at full power I bet it'd drag YOU down the runway. Thousands of dollars in these things... I can't imagine the pressure not to crash it. *shudder*. Beautiful plane... my favorite historic plane ever. So cool.
