I am out of the closet. I watch, and enjoy Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'm like 10 years too late on picking up on what a great show this (was). But the best part about being so late, is that technology has now allowed me to find and watch every episode ever made at my discretion. Whether through THE art of keeping the PIRATES at BAY, or my favorite online video site, Hulu, I am up to Season 6, and it's still fun.
It's not really Buffy so much as Joss Whedon, who, aside from his recent attempt at "The Dollhouse" (which I may never really understand), just plain writes a good screenplay. The dude made a "High School Musical" vampire teenie-bopper fest seem frickin' fun, and kept me entertained, and that's saying somethign. I'm a "Pop Cynic", contentedly hating all pop culture unless otherwise proven. And proving pop culture worthy usually involves Sodium Pentathol and toothpicks in my eyelids to make me sit through anything.
Part of the Joss appeal may be the effective use of nerd culture, which is close to my heart. I'm part nerd, and they do a great job jabbing at nerd culture, much like Seth McFarlane. I'll prove it with the following dialogue from Season 6, Ep.21:

Villain Nerd: "You saw her! She's a truck driving magic mama! And we've got maybe seconds before Darth Rosenberg grinds everybody into Jawa burgers, and not one of you has the Midi-Chlorians to stop her!"

Xander Harris: [in response]: You've never had any tiny bit of sex, have you?
HAHA! Don't be hatin'. Love the Buffy.
